Delta Hospital Receives High Marks for Patient Safety

Delta, CO, April 29, 2016 - Delta County Memorial Hospital, a 49 bed district hospital has received its third patient safety "A" in the past four years from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national non-profit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. It is one of the only hospitals on the Western Slope to receive a patient "A".

The Leapfrog Group released this spring 2016 update to the Hospital Safety Score, grading over 2500 hospitals nationally on how well they protect their patients from errors, accidents, injuries and infections. This year's patient safety score also highlights newly-added patient measures showing a relationship to improved patient safety outcomes. And, for the first time the score includes two new infection measures for MRSA bacteria and C. diffficle.

An analysis led by Matt Austin, Ph.D. of the Armstrong Institute on Patient Safety and Quality at John Hopkins University, found that 33,439 lives could be saved each year if all hospitals had the same performance as those receiving an "A".

"Delta County Memorial Hospital is very proud of being awarded and "A" from The Leapfrog Group for the third time in the past four years," The safety score demonstrates our level of commitment and service to our patients and Delta County families," stated CEO Jason Cleckler.

The panel includes: John Birkmeyer (University of Michigan), Ashish Jha (Harvard University), Lucian Leape (Harvard University), Arnold Millstein (Stanford University), Peter Pronovost (John Hopkins University), Patrick Romano (university of California Davis), Sara Singer (Harvard University), Tim Vogus (Vanderbilt University) and Robert Wachter (University of California, San Francisco).
