Delta Hospital Volunteers Award Scholarships
The Delta County Memorial Hospital Volunteers recently awarded scholarships to Delta County high school students who are graduating seniors and who are going to college to major in a health-related area.
This year four scholarships were awarded to:
1. Reilly Quist - Vision Charter Academy/Delta High School - $1000 for Junior Volunteer Scholarship - University of Colo/Denver in Pre-Med to become a Physician
2. Tristan Littlejohn - Paonia High School - $1000 - Colorado School of Mines - Biomedical Engineering
3. Amber L. Pagone - Hotchkiss High School - $1000 - Colorado Mesa University- Nursing
4. Taylor Polson - Paonia High School - $1000 - University of Northern Colorado- Nursing
The DCMH Volunteers organization is composed of over 100 volunteers who assist in many hospital departments on a voluntary basis. In 2013 they donated 18,548.5 hours to the Delta hospital.
They also manage and operate the hospital gift shop, returning all revenue generated to assist many hospital departments. Items recently donated include: new wheel chairs, supplies for pediatric patients, a new physician's bed in the physician sleeping quarters in the Emergency Department and flowers for Oncology flower pots.
In addition the hospital Volunteers have set up a scholarship fund this year for hospital employees.
